PLEASE PASS THIS NEWS ON – VERY IMPORTANT FOR PEOPLE WITH EPILEPSY
It’s crunch time for the 38 Degrees campaign to stop the justice secretary Chris Grayling trashing our legal aid system.
Right now, if you or someone you care about got arrested, you’d have the right to choose your own lawyer. But, under Grayling’s plans you’d simply be allocated the cheapest lawyer the government can find.
Last week over 40,000 of us signed a petition calling on Chris Grayling to save legal aid. Now it’s time to take the campaign even further. The justice department’s consultation on these plans will close in just a few days. They want to know what the public thinks about these suggested changes, so let’s tell them!
Can you write in to the consultation now? It takes two minutes to send an email:
Chris Grayling can’t be in any doubt about the strength of feeling against these proposals. The justice department has been holding consultation events across the country. We took our massive people-powered petition to one last week and when we handed it over the audience broke out in raucous applause!
If these changes go through, legal aid will be handed out to whoever comes in at the lowest price. We’ll be left with a legal aid system run by huge private companies, like Tesco, that put profit before people. We need to do everything we can to make sure Chris Grayling and his department are aware of the public opposition to their proposals.
When we campaign together, we get things done! In 2011, tens of thousands of us wrote into a government consultation on proposals for the future of our forests, making sure that privatisation plans were ditched once and for all! And last month, Nick Clegg promised he wouldn’t let the Snoopers’ Charter pass after 10,000 of us emailed our MPs.
Let’s flood this consultation with demands they dump the plans to cut legal aid and our access to justice. Click here to email the consultation now: https://secure.38degrees.org.
Thanks for being involved,
